MEM

A post-apocalyptic western as a mini web series

MEM is a three-episode web series. A post-apocalyptic western. A master's degree project. And the birth of Tag & Nacht Media: over the course of one semester we wrote a screenplay, assembled a cast, planned the shoot and produced it over 12 shooting days at the Wasserkuppe and in a self-built studio set in Darmstadt. Everything was handmade, from a sled made of Euro pallets to a greenscreen studio area and a saloon built from a cut-up shipping container.

During shoot planning we launched a successful crowdfunding campaign and secured newspaper and TV coverage. Parallel to our first commissions after university, post-production followed with a very high VFX workload. Several instrumentalists re-recorded the pre-production for the soundtrack. The three episodes were eventually released on YouTube in December 2014 through a distribution deal with UMC.one and later also on Amazon Prime. International screenings at series festivals led to two awards for music in Bilbao and Seattle.

Thanks to screenplay funding from Hessischer Rundfunk, we developed a reboot of the scenario to tell the story with more running time: we wrote a season of 10 x 45 minutes and worked with dramaturge Roland Zag for the first time. Christian is currently working with DobagoFilm on a funded spin-off.
